Honestly this is such a great trail for beginners and enthusiasts. As a first timer and beginner it was the perfect distance for me at 2.6 miles. My husband is an avid runner and also enjoyed the trail. People along the way waved and were not in the way. Benches and signs were posted along the way to ensure you remained on the trail. Some of the trail is on a wooded bridge which is a unique and enjoyable part of it.

We came for leaf peeping, and it was amazing. 2.8 mile walk around the lake in the White Oak trail. We’ll be back, maybe often, and sometimes with mountain bikes. The tiny Discovery Center was worth a visit , too: most fun thing there is the recorded sounds of three kinds of owls who live in the park, two kinds of frogs and a beaver chewing a tree. :D Oh, they have LOTS of holiday lights up from Thanksgiving weekend through New Year’s weekend. We’ll be back! Best city park I’ve ever been to, actually.

Newport News Park is a Gem for Outdoor Enthusiasts After visiting this park it's easy to see why others love it. The mature trees provide ample shade, making it a pleasant escape even on hot days. The park is very clean and well-maintained, a testament to the dedicated staff. For those seeking a more active experience, the fitness trails and exercise stations are a great option. The park is also dog-friendly, with plenty of space for furry friends to roam (on leashes, of course). The accessibility is great with paved trails suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. The free admission is another major plus, making it an affordable destination for individuals and families.
